Purple heart medal..
The Purple Heart is a decoration awarded to those who have been wounded or killed while in military service, and is given by the President of the United States. The purple heart is one of the oldest military awards still given to members of the U.S. military. The Vietnam war was the second war period since the First World War to decorate most soldiers, giving out 351,794 Purple Hearts to the soldiers that were wounded, or to the family of those that were killed in action. This is only surpassed by the number of Purple Hearts given out in the Second World War, with a total of 1,076,245 medals.
